Meters' Precautions in Summer (Part 2) Targeted Maintenance

Summer's high temperatures, high humidity, frequent heavy rains, and the risk of lightning strikes are all "natural enemies" of meters. Summer maintenance should focus on the core aspects of "cooling, moisture prevention, lightning protection, and preventing media deterioration."

In the previous article, we discussed the four general points for maintaining meters in summer. In this article, we mainly discuss the key points of maintenance for different types of meters or instruments.

(1) The core points of temperature instruments in summer are "cooling and heat dissipation" and "preventing condensation due to temperature difference".

Temperature transmitters installed outdoors must be fitted with sunshades to prevent direct sunlight exposure, which can easily cause overheating and damage to the internal circuit boards .

(2) Summer maintenance of pressure instruments: "moisture-proof sealing" is key. If an error occurs after a heavy rain, it is most likely due to water ingress caused by seal failure.

In the high temperatures of summer, condensate in the pressure-conducting tubes easily vaporizes, forming airlocks that prevent proper pressure transmission and cause erroneous instrument readings. It is necessary to periodically discharge the gas from the pressure-conducting tubes .

(3) In summer, high temperatures can cause some materials to ferment, separate into layers, and produce bubbles that can adhere to the level gauge sensor, resulting in false levels.

Outdoor level gauges must be fitted with rain covers. Pay special attention to checking the junction box and casing seals to ensure rainwater cannot enter .

(4) Summer maintenance of flow meters focuses on "preventing component jamming" and "preventing media interference". In summer , the impeller, rotor and other moving parts of the flow meter are prone to thermal expansion and contraction. And with changes in material viscosity, they are easy to jamming, which can lead to signal interruption. It is necessary to check the instrument's sensor regularly to prevent material scale buildup, which can affect signal transmission.

If it is a turbine flow meter, avoid direct sunlight on the instrument housing to prevent deformation of the housing and affect the measurement accuracy.
